Sapporo had it's first snow today. Or, it's first snow that's lasted more than a night. It's officially winter! My Japanese friends don't seem very impressed, but they see this every year. Still, it's beautiful! Nice and thick and puffy. Not quite wet enough for the perfect snowball, but it still works pretty well. I think the international students have more than enough enthusiasm to make up for the Japanese student's lack there of.
We all just finished the first snow ball fight of the season. I am now sitting in my favorite cafe, drinking chai and wishing that I had my camera with me so I could take some photos of the season for you. I won't make that mistake tomorrow, I hope. Maybe it'll snow again tomorow and I can get some action shots for you!
Sapporo has a snow festival in the winter where artists come from all over the world to see giant ice and snow sculptures. Unfortunately, I'll be gone before they start construction. However! I will be around during the German Christmas Festival and the illumination of the park where they put Christmas lights everywhere. That's exciting!
I'm looking forward to Christmas and seeing everyone again.
Love you lots.

This sounds wonderful! I don't know what I would do without the change of seasons. We had our first "Christmas Eve Snow" a week or so - it was absolutely beautiful. Huge, fluffy flakes slowly falling to the ground. It didn't amount to much which I'm totally OK with. One of my customers called it the same thing! I felt a bit of a bond! ;D! It's snowing a little this morning, but I don't think it'll amount to much. It could continue to do this little bit until Dec. 24 and then I hope we get a couple of feet!
This year has gone by pretty fast and yet, it's like Christmas will never get here! I'd really like to get my Christmas tree up Thanksgiving weekend for my Open House. Do you think Dad and Mitchell will help?! I think Dad threw away all of my white icicle lights this summer. When we took them down last year, we didn't do it in an orderly fashion, so he was pretty disgusted with the mess! His lack of patience must have won that day!
We're going to Mankato this weekend. Do you remember Mallory Wermers from Parkston? She was a couple of years older than you and she came up to swim a couple of winters. Anyway, she's going to give us a quick tour of the campus. She's a senior there and we see her mom quite a bit at the grocery store. Then, we're going to the meet, than meet with the coach and than we're going to stay overnight with Aunt Mona and Uncle Tom. I haven't seen them in a long time so I'm looking forward to that. Mitchell has to work on Sunday so we need to get back on the road early. It's always something! My house is suffering from lack of attention lately!
Grandma & Grandpa will be here in a couple of weeks as well. It'll be great to have them here. Dad saw them over Labor Day but we haven't seen them since this summer. Grandpa's birthday is December 19 - just a hint! If you send him a card, send it here and we'll give it to him when they get here. Otherwise, call them!
Love ya toots! Can't wait to see you! Enjoy the German Festival! That sounds like fun.
And...what were you thinking? No camera?! Have I not taught you anything?!!!!
Love ya!

Kels: sounds like you are having a great time,,, learning lots of interesting stuff. I'm amazed at how many differant foods you have to try out! Do they have any Am foods like mac and cheese? do you get a chance to cook for your host family?
when we had foreign exchange students living with us,, they were stunned with the amount of waste/non recycling we do... that was 10ish years ago, tho. they were also struck with the size of our cars,, and how many we owned.,,,and how many of the kids drove to school!
I've been busy with grandkids,, and sewing,, working on lots of quilts, and Christmas projects. this weekend,, we may get some lights on the house. I left my tree all up and decorated from last year,, so, inside the house christmas decor will only take a few minutes.
Your folks will be staying overnight as Mitch has a swim meet in Mankato. I'm sure we'll play some sort of cards,, or a board game. Mitch has to work,, i think by 4, so, they'll be leaving early,, than,, it's Vikings on tv. Tom has season tickets to all the home games. We've all taken turns joining in on the celebrating at the Dome. We have plenty of Vikings decor from party cups,, to banners,, sweat shirts,, face painting, beads and plastic purple popcorn bowls.
Hows the pink elephant hunting going? I suppose it's hard to shop with thinking of the amount of room you'll have in your suitcase. You can always toss away clothes!
when uncle tom went to alaska,, he took a cooler as his luggage filled with old clothes . when they caught fish,, they had it hard frozen. On the return trip home, they wore the clothes they wanted to save and tossed the rest,, making plenty of room for Hallibut,, my favorite.
take care sweetie, we love and miss you.
